                                                                                                (motion SECONDED and PASSED)

Guest (s)

Bob Doherty introduced Erik Blaisdell and Justin Kemp, Account Executives for the Ontario Reign, a new ECHL team that is playing out of Ontario, California. Justin and Erik explained the different fundraising opportunities with the Ontario Reign as well as sharing the team’s philosophy as related to youth hockey. Erik Blaisdell distributed packets to the board.

Their season game opener is October 25th. They have a 36-game home stand during the season October-April.

Bob Doherty introduced Lauren Brosamer of the California State Games. She distributed packets regarding the 2009 California Winter Games Tournament to take place during Presidents’ Day Weekend. Entry deadline is January 2, 2009.

Commissioner’s Report

Bob Doherty informed the board that Steve Laing, the new CAHA president will be coming to some of the SCAHA board meetings.

Bob Doherty reported that eighty percent of the team movements came directly from the club presidents. Bob thanked the presidents that stepped up and re declared their teams’ levels.

Bob reiterated to the board that there is no rescheduling of A/B SCAHA league games and teams not showing up for their games, thus forfeiting the games, will be fined as per SCAHA rules. Games will be registered as 1-0 loss for the team that forfeits.

James Mondragon motioned to not have a December SCAHA Board of Directors meeting.                                                                                                          (motion SECONDED and PASSED)

Bob Doherty reminded the board that we still need copies of club bylaws and club board of directors’ information, such as email address, home address, telephone numbers, etc.

Deputy Commissioner’s Report

Sandy Blumberg reported on the LAHOA meeting. She stated they have 345 members and all but 11 of them have attended seminars. They reported on our SCAHA meeting. LAHOA did ask for every club to have a designated person to review that all the games have assigned officials working them. For most clubs, this person would be the ice convener. Unfortunately, with clubs changing officers, it is sometimes not clear who that designated person is.

They have asked for someone from SCAHA to sit on their Disciplinary Committee. They are going to have a tiered level system in place. First step is going to be a review done by Brent Tubbs, Sandy and Art Kitano, who will research and determine if a full hearing is required or not. Sandy has been asked to sit on their Discipline committee. And vice versa, we have asked for someone from LAHOA to sit on our Disciplinary Committee. Sandy stated that she has already been part of a LAHOA hearing. Lastly, the regular rink scheduler will be scheduling the CAHA mandated weekends.

Sandy reminded the presidents that fines are due tonight. We have about 4 or 5 spectator ejections reported. Hearings for spectator ejections are not automatic. The spectator in question will need to request a hearing. The club is responsible for collecting the fine and paying SCAHA.

Staff Reports

Member Services – Wendy Goldstein reported that she is missing birth certificates from clubs with new players to SCAHA. She has the player-up approvals to distribute to clubs.

Wendy distributed the player fees’ chart showing clubs with outstanding amounts owing.

Sandy Blumberg asked Wendy to send Brent Tubbs the team declaration numbers for A/B and AA teams.

Statistician – Annie Fisher distributed a few of the outstanding 2007-2008 player patches to clubs for players who are new to them. Annie stated that the penalty minutes for pre season will be out next week.

Ice Convener – Chris Carcerano reported on the status of the schedule. He is currently reviewing the home and away balance at a club level. Once again, Chris stated that clubs must review the draft schedule in detail and to get back to him within the prescribed deadline. Chris reminded the board that rescheduled Tier II games must be played within 30 days of the original scheduled game.

A total of 12 teams were moved up or down and a total of 13 teams were changed from preseason to regular season. Chris informed the board that we have a total of 169 teams including Girls’ teams. There are 12 Tier I teams in southern California.

Treasurer – Bob Driffill is absent. No report at this time.

LAHOA Report

Rich Ramirez informed the board that to date they have had about 30 officials evaluated.

The supervisors that are assigned to the rinks are going to games and evaluating the officials’ performances. For all minor problems they strongly recommend that club presidents contact the rink supervisor (all supervisors’ contact information is on the LAHOA web site) and let them know of a potential problem. Their goal is to have about 300 officials evaluated this year. Laura Ryan asked if this will be applied in San Diego as well. Sandy Blumberg answered that they are looking into this and hopefully by November both officials’ organizations will be using the same process for the evaluations.

A.C.E. Coordinator

Nancy Hodge reminded the board to send her the name and contact information of the A.C.E. Coordinator for their clubs. Her email address is dux8fan@aol.com. There is a Level 3 coaching certification clinic this Saturday, October 11, 2008 in San Diego at the Kroc Center.  There might be another series of coaching certification clinics in December.

New Business

Scholarship

Bob Doherty reported on behalf of Laurie Boaz who is absent. SCAHA has received about 100 scholarship assistance applications. SCAHA has allocated about $14,500 from the budget. The scholarship assistance amounts range from $100 to $500 per applicant. Laurie asked Bob to clarify Tier I applicants requesting scholarship assistance. Tier I players, although part of a member club within SCAHA, do not pay any SCAHA fees. Only players that pay SCAHA fees, (A/B and AA players, etc.) are eligible to participate. Tier I players at one time in their youth hockey careers were part of SCAHA and were eligible to participate during that time.

C.H.A.M.P.S.

LeAnn Doherty reported that the CHAMPS Ducks patches and game tickets were distributed. Those games are on the 15th, 16th and 17th of October. The Kings are still working on the details regarding games. The level 3 Ducks patches are on order and they are about 6 weeks away. LeAnn is working with the Kings and the Ducks for players who are achieving GPA’s of 3.5 or 4.0 and higher to come up with a distinct award for them.

SCAHA Pre-Select Camp

Bob Doherty reminded the board that the SCAHA pre-Select camp is December 13-14, 2008.

Meeting was adjourned at 8:30 pm
