Minutes

Laura Ryan moved to approve the minutes of the February 11, 2009 meeting.

                                                                                                (motion SECONDED and PASSED)

Commissioner’s Report

Sandy Blumberg reported on behalf of Bob Doherty who was absent. Sandy informed the board that there was a change of venue for the first round of playoffs for the Bantam B division. She also informed the board that the SCAHA playoff rules will be posted in all of the score keeper’s boxes as well as the officials rooms.  In regular playoff games ending in ties, there will be two-(2) sudden death five-(5) minute overtime (OT) periods. If the score remains tied after the two sudden death periods then the game will be declared a draw, with each team receiving one point.  Chris Carcerano stated he will do a final audit to check on the 4 hour gap between games and more importantly the 12 hour gap from one day to the next.

Special Order of Business

Sandy Blumberg informed the board that as per SCAHA Bylaw 16.02, the board will be hearing an appeal from Mark Miller, a MDA18U LAHC player, who received a match penalty in a Lakewood Presidents’ Day Tournament game on February 15th vs. the Dragons. The Penalty Review Committee held a hearing on February 25 and the result was that the player would be suspended until March 9th. Sandy stated SCAHA waived the $250 appeal fee. Sandy Blumberg read the officials reports and introduced all information regarding the incident. Mark Miller spoke to the board and answered questions. He was excused and the board deliberated. James Mondragon motioned to uphold the Penalty Review Committee’s determination.         (motion SECONDED and PASSED)

LAHOA/SDHRA Report

Brent Tubbs informed the board that 85% of the SCAHA playoff games are scheduled. There will be 114 games this upcoming weekend and there will be a supervisor present at each venue. Not all of the games will be supervised as they will be using some of the supervisors to work some of the playoff games. The games will see more experienced referees than usual working them even at the lower level. LAHOA is also scheduling the officials for Districts at Valencia the same weekend. Brent apologized for not completing the draft version of the mentoring program as per the SCAHA January meeting. It will be presented well before and be in place before next season. Chris Carcerano attended the LAHOA meeting on March 2, 2009. He will be contributing with ideas.

Dan Ellison spoke on behalf of SDHRA. Brent Tubbs will be in San Diego for the SCAHA semis. He informed the board on their on going evaluation of officials as well as any disciplinary action. He informed the board that there will be a District Officiating seminar this summer.

Deputy Commissioner’s Report

Sandy Blumberg advised that if there should be any match penalties or spectator ejections, SCAHA will try to hold hearings before the next round of playoffs.

Staff Reports

Member Services – Wendy Goldstein thanked Nancy Hodge and Lori Miller for their assistance with all of the playoff credential packets. She informed the board that all clubs are paid to date with regards to player fees. However, she did advise that forfeiture fees need to be paid in full prior to the start of the playoffs.

Statistician – Annie Fisher stated all posters, score sheets and playoff patches have been distributed to all of the venues. The playoff programs will be ready tomorrow. They have already been sorted to hand out. And finally, the stats for the 2008-009 season will open up on Sportability at the conclusion of post season play.

Ice Convener – Chris Carcerano informed the board that all playoff venues will need to call in the scores of the games so that he may post on our web site in a timely manner. On another note, Chris will be forming a committee to study the possibility of dividing the league geographically into North and South divisions for game scheduling purposes. All those interested should email him.

Treasurer’s Report

Bob Driffill distributed the financial statements dated January 31, 2009.

A.C.E. Coordinator

CAHA Nomination
